In case you haven’t heard (although I’m sure you have) the best place for New Yorker’s favorite food (besides bagels) in Bushwick is Roberta’s. If you don’t believe the rumors you need to check this place out! It’s the best spot in Brooklyn to grab something Italian.

Roberta’s has their very own site on spot where they can grow their own veggies. When I was there I started out with a “Bibb Salad” which had gogonzola cheese, walnuts and THE BEST lettuce I’ve ever had. The lettuce came right from their garden THAT DAY making it alone, great enough to eat. Also be sure to get something with tomatoes in it! All tomato sauces for their pizzas and calzones are grown at the restaurant too. Check out these pictures that are going to make you so hungry you have no other choice. (And just for your info, the food is as good as it looks).

The vacated store front across the street from “We the Free” on Smith and Pacific has just been bought/ leased. People have been spotted in there yesterday by our undercover “We the Free” girls checking out the space for renovation. We have NO IDEA what our new neighbor is going to be. We love our current fellow Smith- Street businesses like “Cafe Bueno,” “Wild Ginger,” and “Chop Chop” so we want to know who’s new in the hood! The “We the Free” girls and our customers have been discussing the possibilities and decided it would be fun to run a little contest…

WHOEVER GUESSES WHAT THE NEW BUSINESS IS GETS A PRIZE! (Please note that the bacon- egg- and- cheese value is no more than $4. But hey, it’s a bacon egg and cheese! Any price is a good price.)

Check out the pictures we snapped of the shop front’s current state, prior to renovation:

The reflection made it hard to snap a shot of the inside behind the gates. What's new on Smith and Pacific? Guess right and win!

A random parking lot's on Smith and Pacific too. Kinda confusing since street parking is usually available.

And of course... "We the Free!"

And of course... "We the Free!"

So far we’ve had the following guesses! Post yours to win.

– Megan, the Assistant Store Manager: A Hardware Store (A very good guess since we have few of those on Smith Street)

– Cat, MIT: A Chick- Fil- A (Unlikely, but dreaming is always appreciated here at “We the Free.” Plus Atomic Wings on Smith Street does pretty well so it’s not totally left field to think this).

– Hal, One of Our Favorite Customer’s Friends: “Another Thai Restaurant” (Thai restaurants are exceptionally popular on Smith Street. A satirical speculation).

WHAT DO YOU THINK?!

Tired of Italian, sushi and pizza? Looking to eat somewhere different in Brooklyn? Our store manager KORIN went to a South African restaurant called “Madiba” the other night and swears by it! She ordered the Prawns Peri Peri and Vegetable Roti for an entree. All of their fish is harvested in the coastlines of South Africa and brought to America for the ultimate authenticity!

Madiba is the first South African restaurant on the record in the United States, having opened it’s original location right here in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. (Manhattan isn’t the first to have everything)! Take a look at some of the delectable dishes offered at Madiba below:

Madiba also has live performances frequently from Brooklyn locals. Check out the picture of one of their in- house jazz bands:

Madiba is modeled after “Shabeen” which is dining halls all over South Africa where travelers and families go to unwind. It’s the authentic experience… right here in New York!

Madiba is owned by Mark Henegan, a South African native, with Jorge Soltero as the master chef.

So the corner of Smith and Pacific has been bombarded with amazing resteraunts including Pacifico (Mexican food), Trout (fried fish, burgers, ect) and Since 1963 (soul- food takeout) all run by the same owners. Each resteraunt offers a dramatically different atmosphere, price range and menu (all up to par), so when the ladies across the street here at “We the Free” heard that they were opening a new restaraunt, we had to check it out!

Take a look at these pictures of Cafe Bueno, new to the corner of Smith and Pacific in Brooklyn

The menu is created by MASTER CHEF from Manhattan’s very own “Cafe Luxembourg” Julio Bueno and offers all kinds of European food to appease many different tastes. They have everything from Pan Seared Arctic Char to New York Strip Steak Frites. The best thing is that Cafe Bueno’s menu is affordable which means you can get a designer meal from a master chef at any price range! (Sides and Kid’s Menu starts at $5, Appetizers at $7 and Pasta at $9). We’re excited to try the food here.. and we bet you are too!
